LUCHT LHZ electric heaters are conquering Australia

As Australia pushes ahead with the energy transition, electric heaters are becoming an increasingly attractive option. In 2025, LUCHT LHZ won one of the country’s leading heating companies as a new OEM partner.

Solar panels generate electricity in the Australian sunshine, which is stored in large battery systems for use in the evening. Australia has become a hotspot for renewable energies. It is in this environment that more and more households and businesses are turning to electric heating systems. This enables green electricity to be used efficiently for heating purposes, too.

Solar power in abundance

The Australian government is committed to promoting the expansion of renewable energy sources. The goal is for at least 82 percent of electricity to come from renewable energy sources by 2030. Solar power is currently the largest producer of green electricity on the island.

With an average of around 2,800 hours of sunshine per year, Australia’s climate offers ideal conditions for this. For comparison, Germany has around 1,700 hours of sunshine per year. Consequently, many Australians own solar panels, with one in three households currently having their own solar power system.

Consequently, the supply of solar power sometimes exceeds demand. From July 2026, households in several states will therefore receive three hours of free solar power every day at midday, even if they do not have their own system. The Solar Sharer programme aims to reduce pressure on the grid, facilitate infrastructure expansion and encourage people to participate in the energy transition.

Electric heaters offer significant savings potential

Australian residents can take advantage of free electricity by running energy-intensive appliances at midday. They can, for example, turn on the dishwasher or washing machine, plug in an electric car or crank up an electric heater.

Electric heaters convert electricity directly into heat. They do not produce CO₂ emissions from fossil fuels, and when combined with green electricity, they are significantly more climate-friendly than gas or oil heaters. At the same time, they relieve the strain on the electricity grid by balancing peak loads.

There are three main types of electric heaters: convector, infrared and storage. Storage heaters are particularly well suited to Australian homes: they convert electricity into heat, store it inside, and then release it evenly throughout the room over several hours. For instance, the midday sun could be used to heat a room in the afternoon. This reduces energy costs and makes electric heaters particularly efficient on the island.

The partnership promotes sustainable heating

A leading Melbourne-based heating company has also recognised this potential, entering into an OEM partnership with LUCHT LHZ last year. The two companies first met in March 2025 at the ISH trade fair in Frankfurt. The first test delivery took place in the summer. Later in the year, the company ordered two large containers of electric heaters, primarily panel storage heaters. The project reached a six-figure order volume.

The customer chose LUCHT LHZ primarily because of its high-quality products and many years of experience. Based in Burgstädt, the company has over 35 years’ experience manufacturing electric heaters and uses only high-quality European components. Another advantage was that LUCHT LHZ products are certified for the Australian market. This significantly accelerated the entire process.

Australia remains a growth market

The electric radiator market in Australia is currently experiencing strong growth. According to an analysis by Mobility Foresights, sales amounted to around US$812 million in 2024. It is expected to rise to around US$1.72 billion by 2031, representing an average annual growth rate of over 11 per cent.

Efficient heating solutions are an important part of the energy transition, as heating and hot water account for around 70 per cent of household energy consumption. The good news is that demand for electric heating systems is on the rise, says Uwe Lucht, Managing Director of LUCHT LHZ. ‘We will continue to conquer the international market with quality German products and European components.’
